The first bobbin is full, and I'm ready to start the 2nd. This Shetland spins itself, really, and is nice. A little VM, but no big deal.
I'm having a hard time keeping it even - it wants to be laceweight, and I would like it a *little* denser...like say, sportweight? It's a bitch to weave (for me, anyway) with laceweight, and the color-and-weave effect I'm thinking of won't show up as nicely. We'll see what plying does for it!
Zoeymonster killed 4 oz of roving sometime yesterday. She also ate Himself's breakfast, redecorated the family room, ate a box of freezer paper and a thing of fruit juice. My rug in the family room will probably never be the same....we have playdoh ground in and half eaten out, it's scrunched up in the corner.....
I'm thinking I like it without the rug. We'll see how long that feeling lasts.
and boring. Lots of revenue to be coded....I think I did 2 weeks worth in 7 hours today. Blah!
Last night was interesting - "Secrets of the Dead - Amazon Warrior Women" was on PBS. Very interesting - this archeologist has spent the last 20 or so years trying to prove Homer's tales of Amazons was true. She did - and found living decendents of them, too! (Gotta love DNA testing!) Even the 2 kidlets were interested enough to watch along with me.
Got 1 bobbin of the Shetland completly full. Tonight, I plan on starting the 2nd; when it's full I'll ply them together.
Half of this yarn is destined to be dyed - hopefully French Blue. (I'm aiming for French Blue, whether or not I achieve it is another story!). The other half will be left natural - a sort of oatmeal color. It will then be woven into a scarf......some sort of color-and-weave effect. I'm leaning towards a log-cabin type thing.....but maybe shooting star. Won't know til the yarn is dyed and ready to be warped up.
I had an idea for a log-cabin variation, using 3 colors instead of 2. Gonna let that one cook a while before trying it out.
Must run - time to pack stuff up so we can head home!
So...no belly dance tonight for me. The neighbor's daughter is with her dad this week, and they were actually home, so the kidlets went over there to play. *I* got to sweep and mop my floors.
I need to get a new vacuum. I gave my Hoover to my mom - it was a good vacuum, but it couldn't keep up with the dog hair and new construction dirt that we have going on here. Hopefully, I can snag a Dyson off of Ebay for a decent price - I wouldn't even mind a reconditioned one, if it made the price actually affordable.
The Zoeymonster got a big lesson today. She bared her teeth at Lucy, the Pyr, and I smacked her and said NO. She then proceeded to growl *at me*. Nope, uh-uh, not gonna take that! I very politely grabbed her outside legs and shoulder-rolled her so fast, she didn't know what hit her. She lay on her side with a very confused and slightly fearful look in her eyes while I stood over her and read her the riot act. She was most apologetic and groveled a lot when I finally let her up. (I don't recommend this trick - she's a Big dog.....right around 140, and 36" at least at the shoulder. It was Not Fun!) We'll see if she learned anything from it.
Got lots and lots of weaving ideas...basket weave in 2 colors (or more), fancy twills (for the 12H table loom).....too many ideas to actually settle down and do any weaving. Got to get them out of my head so I can get that blanket off of the loom and re-warp with something handspun and fun.
