Ok - I managed to get a few pictures of my newest socks tonight. I LOVE how they came out - and the pictures don't do them justice.
Here's a closeup of the leg/heel detail:
You can sort of see the bottom of the foot, as well.
And - the leg:
I absolutly LOVE how this yarn knit up!
Yarn: Adorn sock from Three Irish Girls, dyed in a custom colorway to match the McLellan Ancient tartan. I sent in my sash, and got back 4 gorgeous skeins - the other 2 are on the McLellan base (what else?)
Needles: Size 2 DPNs, from Grafton Fibers.
Notes: This is basically Monkey by Cookie A (see Knitty.com for the pattern). I did my standard 2x2 cuff, knit 6 pattern repeats, then separated for the heel flap. I knit the flap in my usual Eye-of-Partridge, with a 5-stitch garter border on both sides. The flap is 32 rows. The heel is a german heel. 5 pattern repeats down the foot, then I knit 4 rounds before starting the toe.
I like knitting Monkey - the pattern is easily memorized, and goes quickly. It seems to be a good choice for multi-colored yarn - my first pair was knit out of Lornas Laces Shepard Sock in "Funky Stripe". (Here's a photo for comparison:
I like the pattern in the LL yarn, but I *LOVE* what it did in the McLellan colorway. It's just a cool pattern - and I'll probably be doing it again. I'm thinking I need some yarn in Sweet Geek's Clan colors...
