Previous Entry Can we cancel today.... Dec. 16th, 2009 @ 08:53 am Next Entry
see, it's the Company Party today. Normally, we look forward to this- a nice lunch at the Mercury or the Country Club.....today? Not so much - it's at the :sniff: Petroleum Club. WAY Pretentious. WAY overpriced. I (and co-worker) are NOT comfortable at a place where you have to be recommended by 2 members, and voted on by the whole before being allowed in. It's......:blech:

I did order the nice, more expensive than I usually buy yarn. But I still bought it at discounted prices. Since I've already gone nuts, I'll share my "sources"..

Simply Sock Yarn and DBNY Nice yarn, slightly discounted at SSY and deeply discounted at DBNY.....AND I scored free shipping. Can you say "Cashmere blend" socks, anyone?

I was linked to Little Knits - I will be checking them out next time I have some spare funds.

Knitpicks....well, I have a few problems with their business practices. Haven't heard anything about their yarns...but their needles? Yeah....and one of their latest felted slippers looks suspiciously like one of the Tsarina's sock patterns. :sigh: Ah, well.....I can't change the world. Just my buying habits.

Gotta work...I am SO not looking forward to lunch!

I made my first knitpicks purchase the other day -- bought some shine to knit Anouk for a friend whose baby girl is due in January. I know nothing about their business practices, but the yarn is nice, inexpensive and was shipped quickly.

Thanks for the link to DBNY -- I just dropped $67 on yarn for 4 pairs of socks. But they're all Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabulous indy dye jobs.

Yeah...DBNY is DANGEROUS. Fire Lizard Studios has FANTASTIC stuff.....

KP is who tried to...co-opt the Darn Pretty Needles name. From what I understand, an attorney was involved....and it wasn't pretty. (This is heresay; there's not much online about it, because the principals kept it quiet. Very professional of them.)

Darn Pretty Needles are from Linda and Tom "Shaft" Dyak of Grafton Fibers aren't they? Not people I'd want to upset. Nice people, but Vermont Tough(tm). :D I see Linda at the NH Sheep and Wool most years. Their stuff is wonderful and I love their spindles.

Yup. It was kept pretty quiet - which I think is commendable of the Dyak's. I would have gone medieval on KP.....

I can justify buying KP's yarn, because I don't think they're hurting/stealing anyone else's business. Needles, however....I just can't buy their cheap ones, knowing they took the idea from an independent craftsman and deliberately undercut them. Tom puts out his new colorways at $9.99/set - I try to buy them then.
