One of the advantages of being in the SCA and doing long camping events is that we have tents, sleeping bags, air mattresses, lanterns, cooking equipment, warm clothes, water containers, coolers, etc.
And the skills to use them.
I wouldn't particularly want to be living in my 10x10 canvas tent right now -- not with snow still on the ground -- but I've got enough gear (plus what I could salvage from the house) to survive without electricity or mains gas for quite a while. It wouldn't be much fun, but it would be possible.
This is true. I have a propane stove, and the above-mentioned tents, sleeping bags, etc. I'd *prefer* to stay in the house, if at all possible...but I'm one to plan "worst-case" and hope for better.
At least where I am, the weather's a bit milder (although *I* think 40* is Too Damn Cold, but there ya go. It's better than 19*, that's for sure!)
